Apperitivo

Oh Italy...so many charms!

Early evening there is a so called happy hour!. It doesn't last an hour and unlike many happy hours, it isn't about cheap drinks. Basically you buy one drink for about eight euros and have unlimited access to a buffet. Variety and quality of course vary massively...but I've been doing months of research and have some amazing little gems where you can literally have a three course meal!

And I was worried my only temptations would be the pizza and ice cream....

A visit to San Siro

My current apartment (b&b!) is walking distance from the famous stadium, home to both AC Milan and Inter Milan. I teach a couple of footballers' kids, and my class in Milan are possibly the most football obsessed class I've ever taught. So I thought it was about time I went to my first ever live game.

The stadium itself is massive. I liked that it was uninterrupted seating at the corners-it made the Mexican waves so much easier! The match was a quiet one, I was surprised by how empty the stadium was, but the atmosphere was still really energetic. People flew huge flags for the entire match!

Everyone was very respectful....and looked after us as two foreign girls. Italian men are, well, very attentive! It is never quiet when one walks past a man in Italy, and so to imagine two girls sitting in a stadium surrounded by Italians, there were always a host off hands reaching out to help us climb in or out of our seats! We happily had a couple of beers despite the Italians mostly all opting for coffee! The World Cup did get me into football, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I am not ready to become an avid supporter! This was definitely more for the experience! I still think that rugby is a far superior sport, but did really enjoy the afternoon.
