We caught the bus from Lusaka down to Kalomo. I was expecting Kenyan bumpy and pot holed filled roads. Not at all! They were smooth and calm. It was so easy. Our bus had air conditioning, our baggage was minded for us safely as soon as we exited the taxi and although Dora didn't get a seat (we had chance it seats!), they let her sit in the aisle at the back next to me (she refused to take a seat when one became free as was so comfortable and had loads of leg room!). Our fellow passengers were of course very chatty and friendly and we soon made contacts in Livingstone for the following weekend.
The countryside was so beautiful. Africa's landscape is so vast. It's rainy season so everything was really green and contrasted stunningly with the blue skies. We saw plenty of dogs and cows but no African Safari animals yet...fingers crossed!
There were power and water cuts so it was not all luxury, but we felt so relaxed and comfortable which made such a huge difference. The power sockets were in such strange places too so were having to plug stuff in all over the place which was quite funny.

Dora and I had psyched ourselves up for very basic living conditions. We had been told last minute to bring torches as things got very dark, which we interpreted as regular power cuts or no power! Well, as we entered the teacher's accommodation that we were staying in we were so surprised to see such a massive flatscreen TV! Way bigger than one I've seen yet in Italy! The couple who live there had moved out for the week so we had a bedroom each and a bathroom to share. It was such a pleasant surprise!
It was very warm, especially at night, but so comfortable. Definitely quickly felt like I was back in Africa; a cockerel woke us up daily at 5am (sometimes earlier, ahh!) and then the cows began....I need stronger ear plugs!
