Lusaka, Zambia

It's so good to be writing about Africa again! Zambia at last...

We were a little nervous about getting through customs, but fortunately we sailed through without anyone looking inside at the mountain of stationery, footballs and toys!

Packing in my classroom in Milan

Lusaka was gorgeous and sunny and a welcome break from chilly Italy. We were keen to get to our hotel and spend a few hours snoozing by the pool, soaking up the sun.

I couldn't get over how similar it was to Nairobi. On a much smaller scale yes, but the markets, road side kiosks, shop brands, painted walls, gated communities, wide tree lined boulevards...it was amazing.

We went for dinner at an Indian restaurant as felt we would be eating a lot of Zambian food and should appreciate how great the Indian cooking is in SE Africa (It was amazing in Kenya, and sadly Brazil and Italy haven't really compared). It was in a large shopping mall, again something I had forgotten about Nairobi, and you could forget that when inside the restaurant you were actually in the shopping centre. It was nice to try the local beer, Mosi and then sleep!

Zambians are so friendly. Everyone we have met so far has been so warm and welcoming. They have all looked after us so well and been to keen to come and chat to us and help in any way possible. I don't think they can tell the time though....all estimates, meeting points, departure times are way out. We are def back on African time.
