Chile

Chile was chilly!! The last few weeks have been cold but it was in Chile that I really struggled. Knowing it was the last cold part of my trip stopped me from buying warmer clothes but made sure I looked after my gloves! It's funny how we've been so happy if our room had a double instead of twin beds....we did push twin beds together a few times to try to conserve heat and blankets! Fortunately in Chile, like Argentina, it's a pleasure to put a 'wine jacket' on in the evening which has helped!

We went by bus from Mendoza to Santiago and the views over the Andes were stunning. It was strange seeing snow everywhere at the immigration checks at the border and then ski lifts became part of the view too. I've been so impressed with buses in South America. So reliable, luxurious and comfortable. Emma and I had one of the best sleeps of our trip on this journey!

Santiago was very pretty. Lots of nice architecture and interesting markets. It was a good city to wander around and easy to get a feel for the place....when not watching football matches!

View from San Cristobal hill. You can just about see the Andes in the background.

We found a football buddy and persuaded him to get a sticker book!
On our last day we went to Valparaiso a city about 90 minutes away. It's built on a series of hills and had both favela style housing as well as larger houses so the views were all very colourful and pretty. But it was COLD!
