Medellin

I flew from Santiago via a quick change in Lima. The views from the plane as we left were stunning. So mountainous. South America seems so vast. It has such mega cities and then just incredible landscape.

I was very excited about having clean clothes! It was too cold to get anything dried quickly in Argentina and Chile and I've not got that much with me which would lead to sometimes me wanting to wear everything (it has been freezing!) so washing clothes was not an option! It's great to have summer dresses on!

Medellin wasn't as instantly charming as I'd hoped. It's quite a modern city, and although the mountains surrounding it are lovely it didn't really make me love it. Could have been something to do with some tourists I met....but thankfully the Colombians are lovely and I met some nice people.
The Cathedral
It was a nice city to wander around....once I'd understood it....easily confused! It has so many beautiful churches and a cool cable car as part of the metro with lush views. There were lots of nice squares with interesting sculptures or fountains and the very central botanical gardens were lovely to walk around with some fruit juice. Colombia has so many fruits I have never even heard of!

So many Botero, 'fat' sculptures, Botero Plaza
Man on Horse, by Botero. Medellin is his hometown.
Palacio de la Cultura
Candelaria church
Views of Medellin from the metro cable. Favelas in the foreground.

The botanical gardens were a beautiful oasis
Medellin is surrounding by mountains and was so green.
